They did not fire as fast but when they did shoot they hit what they were aiming at. On the other hand the seasoned combat vetern that was trained as a sniper often racked up a tremedous number of kills. It all had to do with the psychology of the shooter under the stress of combat. They only started firing when they were given a fully automatice weapon. When a semi-auto was given to them the same thing happened. If alone with a bolt gun they generally did not fire it at all. It is not a well know fact but the Russians studied men under fire that were alone and seperated from their comrades during WWII. What people generally do not realize that when in combat you generally fire only a few shots and then move fast because if you stay in the same position you generally do not live very long because everyone will direct their fire in your direction if you stay put with your head up blazing away back at them. It was no big deal to shoot five rounds and reload with a 5 round stripper clip and shoot 5 more rounds in less than 60 seconds and put them all in the bullseye at 300 yards. I used to shoot a bolt gun in National Match shooting.
